OUR history
From early irrigation roots to public ownership.
Our water system has a long history of serving this community — from irrigation district beginnings to the public utility we are today.
Water system originated by an irrigation district.
1907
A wood stave main replaced the ditch.
A 48-inch wood stave transmission main replaced the original open ditch.
1951
Filtration plant completed.
A 3-million-gallon-per-day filtration plant was completed.
1956–1961
Shifting to wells and river supply.
The system began shifting toward wells and river supply.
1984
Public Utility District formed.
Citizens voted to form Public Utility District No. 1 of Asotin County.
1987
PUD begins operation.
Asotin County PUD officially began operation.

Board oversight keeps the district accountable.
Commissioners set policy, approve budgets, establish rates, approve purchases and investments, and select the general manager to oversee utility operations and staff.
In addition to water, we also provide other essential services to support the health and well-being of our residents.

Electrical
Asotin County PUD entered the electrical business in 1994 by purchasing underground electrical distribution lines serving Quail Ridge Golf Course. The move also helped the PUD access lower-cost power through the Bonneville Power Administration.

Sewer Collection System
On January 1, 2010, the PUD assumed ownership of Asotin County’s Sanitary Sewer System. The wastewater collection system serves approximately 1,300 connections.
